The inauguration of the 13-kilometer Delhi section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) marks a significant milestone in India's infrastructure development. This extension, operational since January 5th, 2025, brings the high-speed Namo Bharat trains directly into the national capital, connecting New Ashok Nagar to the pre-existing line terminating in Meerut South. The new section features the impressive Anand Vihar underground station, a multi-modal transport hub integrating various existing public transport options, including Metro lines, ISBTs, and the Anand Vihar railway station. The incorporation of the Delhi section into the operational network expands the total operational length to 55 kilometers, with eleven stations now serving commuters. The introduction of Namo Bharat trains into this crucial section of the Delhi-Meerut corridor has already seen over 50 lakh commuters utilize the service since its initial launch. Fares have been set affordably, with a minimum of Rs 20 for the standard coach and Rs 30 for the premium coach, with the maximum fare reaching Rs 150 and Rs 225, respectively, for the entire journey from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South. Trains operate every 15 minutes to ensure reliable service for passengers. The integration of this high-speed rail system into Delhi’s transportation network represents a considerable advancement in regional connectivity, and promises to alleviate traffic congestion within the city and its surrounding areas. The full 82-kilometer corridor, stretching from Sarai Kale Khan in New Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut, will ultimately include 16 Namo Bharat stations and nine additional stations for the Meerut Metro.
