The Diwali box office witnessed a clash of titans as Ajay Devgn's 'Singham Again' and Kartik Aaryan's 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3' premiered on the same day, November 1st. While both films garnered significant attention and drew audiences back to cinemas, neither managed to surpass the six-year-old record set by the blockbuster 'Thugs of Hindostan'.
Despite an impressive opening day collection of Rs 43.50 crore, 'Singham Again' fell short of the Rs 50.75 crore earned by 'Thugs of Hindostan' on its release in 2018. Similarly, 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3', which collected Rs 35.50 crore on its debut, also couldn't touch the record set by the Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan starrer.
'Thugs of Hindostan', directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and loosely inspired by the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise, witnessed a phenomenal response on its opening day, raking in Rs 50.75 crore in India and Rs 6 crore overseas, totaling a worldwide collection of Rs 73 crore. Despite the initial success, the film received unfavorable reviews and its box office performance suffered significantly on its second day, ultimately resulting in a lifetime collection of only Rs 145.55 crores in India.
The disappointing performance of 'Thugs of Hindostan' following its strong opening day serves as a reminder that box office success depends on multiple factors, including critical reception and audience word-of-mouth. While 'Singham Again' and 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3' may have garnered strong initial numbers, it remains to be seen if they can sustain their momentum and ultimately challenge the record set by 'Thugs of Hindostan' in the coming days.
