The highly anticipated PS5 Pro, Sony's latest and most powerful gaming console, will not be released in India despite its global launch earlier this year. The reason for this absence, as confirmed by Sony India, is regulatory issues related to the 6GHz wireless band used in Wi-Fi 7 technology. In a statement, Sony India explained that the PS5 Pro will not be available in countries where the 6GHz band has not yet been permitted, including India.
The PS5 Pro boasts significant upgrades over its predecessor, including 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory, which results in up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay. The console also features advanced ray tracing with dynamic reflections and refraction of light, creating a more realistic visual experience. Another standout feature is PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling technology that enhances image clarity by adding extra detail. The PS5 Pro also introduces the PS5 Pro Game Boost, which improves the performance of over 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games.
Despite the impressive upgrades, the design of the PS5 Pro remains consistent with the original PS5, maintaining the same height and width. The console comes equipped with a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a pre-installed copy of Astro’s Playroom. A disc-less version is also available, with the option to purchase a separate Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive. The regulatory restrictions in India, however, have prevented this advanced console from reaching Indian gamers, leaving them unable to experience the full potential of the PS5 Pro's technology.
This news is likely to disappoint many Indian gaming enthusiasts who were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the PS5 Pro. The absence of the console in the Indian market highlights the complexities and challenges that arise when technological advancements face regulatory hurdles. It remains to be seen whether the regulatory landscape in India will change in the future, allowing the PS5 Pro to finally be released in the country.
