Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking on a significant diplomatic tour, marking the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Nigeria and Guyana in decades. This tour, spanning from November 16 to 21, signifies India's commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with these nations. The visit to Nigeria, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 17 years, will see PM Modi engage in discussions to assess and bolster the strategic partnership between India and Nigeria. During his stay, he will also address a gathering of the Indian community in Nigeria, highlighting the substantial presence of Indian expatriates in the region. The significance of this large Indian community underscores the deep-rooted ties between India and Nigeria.

Following his visit to Nigeria, PM Modi will journey to Rio de Janeiro from November 18-19 to participate in the G20 Summit. Afterward, PM Modi will undertake a State Visit to Guyana from November 19-21, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana since 1968. This visit underscores India's commitment to strengthening ties with countries in the Caribbean region. Previously, PM Modi announced a $14 million grant for community development initiatives in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), along with a $150 million Line of Credit aimed at solar, renewable energy, and climate-related projects. This demonstrates India's willingness to support sustainable development in the region.

While in Georgetown, Guyana, PM Modi will participate in the Second CARICOM-India Summit, engaging with leaders of CARICOM nations to further solidify India's longstanding relationship with the region. CARICOM, comprising 20 countries including 15 member states and 5 associated states, presents a significant platform for India to engage with various nations in the Caribbean. This visit, coupled with the previous announcements of grants and lines of credit, emphasizes India's commitment to fostering collaborations and promoting sustainable development in the Caribbean region.
