Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a significant three-nation tour from November 16th to 21st, 2024, amidst a backdrop of escalating geopolitical tensions stemming from the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and West Asian conflicts. The tour will see Modi engaging with leaders from various countries, emphasizing India's global role and highlighting its stances on key international issues.
The first leg of the tour will take PM Modi to Nigeria from November 16th to 17th, at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years, signifies the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations. During his time in Nigeria, Modi will hold talks with President Tinubu to review the existing strategic partnership and explore avenues for further enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in areas like economic cooperation, energy, and defense. He will also engage with the Indian diaspora community in Nigeria, fostering stronger ties between the two countries.
Following his visit to Nigeria, PM Modi will travel to Brazil to participate in the G20 Leaders Summit on November 18th and 19th. Hosted by Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva, the summit provides a platform for India to voice its perspective on various global issues of concern, building upon the outcomes of the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration and Voice of the Global South Summits held in India in the past two years. Modi is expected to meet with several world leaders during the summit, including US President Joe Biden, in what will be Biden’s last major international engagement before the US elections.
The final leg of the tour will take PM Modi to Guyana from November 19th to 21st, at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana since 1968, underscoring the strengthening ties between the two nations. During his visit, Modi will hold discussions with President Ali and other senior leaders of Guyana, address the Guyana Parliament, and engage with the Indian diaspora there. A key highlight will be his participation in the Second CARICOM-India Summit in Georgetown, Guyana, where he will meet with leaders of CARICOM member countries to further strengthen India's long-standing friendship with the region.
The tour, as a whole, represents India's commitment to fostering stronger global partnerships and promoting its interests on the international stage. It is a testament to India's growing stature as a key player in global affairs and its willingness to actively engage in dialogue and collaboration to address pressing global challenges.
