On the occasion of Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas, the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched a significant package of tribal development projects worth ₹1,535 crore. This initiative reflects the state government's commitment to uplifting tribal communities and addressing their specific needs in areas of education, healthcare, and infrastructure. The projects encompass a wide range of initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of tribal communities throughout the state.
A key component of the package involves the upgrading of 16 ashram schools to high schools, with an investment of ₹15 crore per school. This initiative aims to improve the quality of education available to tribal students, promoting their access to higher education and future opportunities. Simultaneously, 13 secondary schools are being converted into higher secondary schools, each receiving ₹22 crore for the transformation. These upgrades will provide tribal students with greater access to a wider range of academic subjects and educational resources, encouraging their continued progress.
The project also prioritizes the construction of hostels in 426 primary schools, allocated ₹852 crore for this purpose. The availability of safe and comfortable hostels will alleviate the challenges faced by tribal students living in remote areas, ensuring their access to education without the burden of long travel distances and potential financial constraints. These hostels are crucial in providing a conducive learning environment and promoting the retention of tribal students in the education system.
