Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a rally in Deoghar, Jharkhand, launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of plotting to dismantle reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). Modi, referring to Rahul Gandhi as the Congress’s “shehzada” (prince), declared that the Congress harbored dangerous intentions towards these communities, citing former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s previous description of reservations as “slavery” and “bonded labor.”
Modi, in his address, highlighted that Rajiv Gandhi had once advocated for the removal of reservations through public advertisements. He vowed to resolutely oppose any attempts to abolish reservation systems, emphasizing that his government would thwart such conspiracies. He asserted, “Congress’ shehzada is conspiring to scrap reservations for SCs, STs, and OBCs. We will thwart any such conspiracy.”
Modi’s criticisms extended beyond Rahul Gandhi, targeting the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led coalition for allegedly allowing illegal migrants to settle in the state and acquire permanent residency. He argued that this policy jeopardized the state’s identity, particularly in the Santhal Pargana region, claiming that the tribal population had been halved due to infiltration. He expressed concern about the implications for the security of Jharkhand’s women, land, and livelihoods.
Modi concluded his rally with a display of confidence in the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections, predicting a decisive victory for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He expressed his intention to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new government, stating, “Those making calculations in air-conditioned rooms should look at the massive crowds at our rallies.”
The Jharkhand elections are scheduled to be held in two phases, on November 13 and 20, with vote counting set for November 23. This political rally, dominated by Modi’s accusations and pronouncements, further intensifies the electoral campaign in Jharkhand, setting the stage for a fierce contest between the BJP and its opponents.
