On Monday evening, a MiG-29 fighter jet, taking off from the Adampur air base in Jalandhar, Punjab, crashed in agricultural fields near Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred around 4:20 pm, while Wing Commander Manish Mishra was conducting a routine training sortie. The aircraft experienced a technical malfunction, causing it to plummet towards the ground.
In a remarkable display of skill and composure, Wing Commander Mishra successfully ejected from the cockpit before the jet impacted the earth. His timely action prevented any fatalities or property damage on the ground. The aircraft came to rest in the Sonika village, within the jurisdiction of Kagraul police station. Thankfully, no injuries or damages were reported on the ground.
Following the crash, the Indian Air Force immediately initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. The primary objective of the inquiry is to determine the root cause of the technical malfunction that led to the crash. Wing Commander Mishra, who had joined the Indian Air Force in December 2008, was transported to the military hospital in Agra Cantonment for medical evaluation. Thankfully, he is reported to be in stable condition.
