A MiG-29 fighter jet belonging to the Indian Air Force experienced a technical malfunction and crashed in agricultural fields near Agra, Uttar Pradesh on Monday evening. The incident, which occurred at approximately 4:20 pm, involved a single-seater aircraft piloted by Wing Commander Manish Mishra on a routine training sortie. The pilot, displaying remarkable presence of mind and exceptional piloting skills, successfully maneuvered the aircraft away from densely populated areas, ensuring no casualties or damage to property on the ground.
The aircraft, which had taken off from Adampur air base in Jalandhar, Punjab, ultimately crashed in Sonika village within the jurisdiction of Kagraul police. Wing Commander Mishra, a highly experienced pilot commissioned in December 2008, managed to eject safely from the cockpit before the crash. He was immediately transported to the military hospital in Agra Cantonment where his condition is reported to be stable.
