The horrific death of a mother of three in Manipur's Jiribam district on November 7 has been brought to light through a harrowing autopsy report. The report, accessed by India Today, paints a gruesome picture of the woman's demise, attributing it to severe burns that covered nearly her entire body. The woman was killed by suspected insurgents who targeted her village, setting several homes on fire.
The autopsy conducted at Silchar Medical College and Hospital in Assam revealed the extent of the brutality inflicted upon the victim. The report states that 99% of her body surface was covered by burnt wounds, leaving behind burnt bone fragments and missing portions of her face, upper right limb, and lower limbs. Her skull was severely burned and broken into fragments, while her neck tissues were charred. The report also described a penetrating wound on her right thigh and a metallic nail embedded in her left thigh.
While the extensive burns rendered certain examinations impossible, the autopsy could not definitively confirm whether the woman was sexually assaulted. Chemical analysis was also inconclusive due to the condition of the remains. This tragic incident highlights the escalating violence in Manipur, where Kuki militants and security forces have been locked in a deadly conflict. Earlier this week, 11 Kuki militants were gunned down by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) during an encounter in Jiribam district.
The ongoing violence in the state has claimed over 200 lives so far, leaving behind a trail of destruction and suffering. The brutal killing of this mother of three underscores the urgent need for peace and stability in Manipur. The authorities must work to address the root causes of the conflict and bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice. The international community must also play a role in supporting efforts to resolve the crisis and ensure the safety and well-being of all civilians in the region.
