The festive atmosphere of Diwali turned tragic in the Shahdara area of Delhi, where a 40-year-old man and his 16-year-old nephew were gunned down outside their home. Akash Sharma and his nephew, whose name was not disclosed due to his age, were enjoying the celebrations when they were attacked by two individuals on a scooter. The incident, captured on a viral video, showcases the chilling brutality of the crime.
The video, circulating widely on social media, shows Akash and his nephew, both dressed in yellow kurtas, preparing to burst firecrackers near their house. The attackers, including a juvenile who was later identified as a distant relative of the victims, arrived on the scene. The juvenile remained on the scooter while the other assailant, concealing a gun under his shirt, approached the victims.
The assailant initially greeted Akash by touching his feet before suddenly pulling out the pistol and firing multiple shots at him. Akash attempted to flee back into his house to escape the barrage of bullets, but the shots tragically claimed his life. In the crossfire, a bullet also struck Akash's 15-year-old son Krish, who sustained injuries. This harrowing incident highlights the stark reality of violence that can erupt even during joyous celebrations.
The juvenile assailant, having been apprehended, is facing serious charges related to the double murder. Authorities are investigating the motive behind this brutal attack and are actively pursuing the second assailant. The shocking incident has left the community in a state of shock and grief, raising concerns about safety and security in the city.
