Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has presented an ambitious vision for Jammu and Kashmir, outlining a comprehensive plan to transform the region into a place of prosperity and shared growth. Addressing the maiden session of the Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory, Sinha emphasized the government's commitment to empower every individual and create a society where opportunities abound for all. At the heart of this vision lies a multifaceted approach that encompasses economic revitalization, social upliftment, and infrastructure development.
Sinha's address highlighted a number of key initiatives aimed at bolstering Jammu and Kashmir's economy. These include the provision of 200 units of free electricity to deserving households, the expedited completion of sanctioned power projects to achieve self-sufficiency in electricity, and the implementation of the Rangarajan Committee report, which focuses on job creation and economic growth. The government also plans to attract private investment and boost the industrial sector through the J&K Industrial Policy, 2021-30, and the development of new industrial estates. These initiatives aim to create a conducive environment for business and entrepreneurship, fostering economic growth and employment opportunities.
Social welfare lies at the core of Sinha's vision. He outlined plans to provide free, clean drinking water to all, ensuring that all 19.27 lakh rural households have access to functional tap connections by March 2025. Recognizing the importance of the tourism sector, Sinha underscored the government's commitment to enhancing the tourist experience, improving tourism infrastructure, and managing tourist inflow effectively. The government also plans to expand and streamline social assistance programs for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, disabled, and underprivileged sections of society, ensuring their well-being and economic security.
Sinha acknowledged the challenge of drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir and outlined a comprehensive strategy to combat it. The government plans to integrate law enforcement with community-based prevention and mental health services, aiming to build a healthier, drug-free future for its citizens. The provision of affordable and accessible healthcare is another key priority. The government plans to strengthen primary healthcare services, provide universal health coverage, and establish a Chief Minister's Medical Trust to assist those in need of financial support for terminal diseases. Sinha's vision also includes a strong focus on social security, with plans to empower marginalized communities through reservation benefits, operationalize the Forest Right Act, 2006, and implement initiatives for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes.
