Kia's New Compact SUV: Syros, Not Clavis
  • Kia reveals Syros SUV name
  • Positioned between Sonet and Seltos
  • Expected launch in early 2025

Kia has officially unveiled the name of its upcoming compact SUV, the Syros, which was previously rumored to be called the Clavis. This new model will be strategically positioned between the popular Sonet and Seltos in Kia's India lineup, indicating a clear focus on expanding its presence in the rapidly growing SUV market.

The Syros has been teased with intriguing design details, showcasing a sleek and modern profile that borrows elements from Kia's larger models, like the Carnival. The exterior features a boxy design with a vertical DRL design upfront, similar to the Carnival, which was already spotted in spy shots. The sculpted door panels with flush handles, sturdy roof rails, and distinctive L-shaped tail light design at the rear further contribute to the Syros's unique aesthetic.

Kia emphasizes the Syros's focus on catering to the “modern, tech-savvy buyer” by promising a spacious and feature-rich interior. While specifics on the interior are still under wraps, the car is expected to integrate design elements from other Kia models, such as the recently launched Carnival and the EV9. This suggests a high-tech and comfortable cabin experience with modern amenities and connected features.

Engine specifications for the Syros have yet to be formally announced, but Kia has indicated that it will likely offer similar options to the Sonet. This means a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine are all possibilities. The Syros is also expected to include advanced tech features such as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats, enhancing both safety and comfort.

While Kia hasn't yet disclosed a specific launch date for the Syros, industry experts anticipate it to be introduced early in 2025. The arrival of the Syros represents Kia's first offering under its ambitious 2.0 strategy in India, signifying a commitment to further expanding its market share and reaching a wider customer base with a diverse range of vehicles.
