Southern Kerala is currently experiencing heavy rainfall, leading the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for three districts: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta. This alert signifies the potential for very heavy rainfall, ranging from 6 to 20 centimeters. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts, indicating anticipated heavy rainfall between 6 and 11 centimeters.
The IMD has also advised against fishing activities along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast due to the possibility of strong winds and unfavorable weather conditions. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has urged the public to remain indoors and avoid seeking shelter under trees or hoardings during the heavy downpours, as strong winds are anticipated.
This weather event highlights the importance of staying informed and taking necessary precautions during periods of heavy rainfall. The IMD and KSDMA advisories provide crucial guidance to protect individuals and minimize potential risks associated with the weather conditions.
