The first phase of Jharkhand's elections is scheduled for tomorrow, November 13, 2024, with preparations well underway. The Chief Electoral Officer, K Ravi Kumar, provided an update on the readiness of the electoral machinery, ensuring smooth conduct of the voting process. He confirmed that all polling booths have been established in accordance with the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI). These booths are strategically located across the state, providing convenient access for voters.
Kumar highlighted the importance of ensuring adequate preparations, emphasizing that all logistical arrangements, including the deployment of personnel and essential election materials, will be completed by 2 pm today. This meticulous planning ensures a seamless voting experience for the electorate. Historically, voter turnout in urban areas of Jharkhand has been lower compared to rural areas. However, Kumar expressed optimism regarding a potential increase in urban voter participation, citing a projected 2-3 percent rise in turnout.
The Chief Electoral Officer attributed this expected increase in urban turnout to concerted efforts by Returning Officers (ROs), District Officers (DOs), and local bodies. These stakeholders have been diligently engaging with urban communities, promoting awareness about the importance of exercising their right to vote. By mobilizing voters and addressing any concerns or logistical challenges, they aim to bridge the gap in voter turnout between urban and rural areas.
