The killing of two Village Defence Guards (VDGs) by terrorists in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir has sparked outrage and protests in the region. On Friday, a complete shutdown was observed in Kishtwar, with demonstrations against Pakistan, as residents expressed their anger and demanded swift action against the perpetrators. The incident, which took place on Thursday, has heightened security concerns in the already volatile region.
The two VDGs were abducted and killed in the higher reaches of the Kishtwar district. The Jaish-e-Mohammad offshoot Kashmir Tigers claimed responsibility for the attack. Following the killings, a massive joint search operation was launched by police and the Army in the dense forest area where the incident occurred. News of the killings triggered widespread demonstrations in the Drabshalla area of the district, with residents chanting slogans like 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and burning tires to block roads. They also raised slogans against Pakistan and terrorists, expressing their solidarity with the families of the slain VDGs.
Protests were also reported from other areas in the Jammu region, including Kuntwara, Thakurie, and Paddar, where people came out on the streets to condemn the killings and demand justice. Slogans of 'Pakistan Murdabad' were raised, and sit-ins were organized on the roads to express their anger and frustration. Security has been beefed up in the Kishtwar district, as authorities try to maintain law and order in the wake of the terrorist attack. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges faced by the region and underscores the need for continued vigilance and robust counter-terrorism measures to protect innocent lives.
