The upcoming IPL player auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25 will be a spectacle for cricket fans, but it will be without the presence of England's fast bowler Jofra Archer. The final list of players set to go under the hammer comprises 574 players, with 366 Indian and 208 overseas players. While Archer is absent, another veteran bowler, James Anderson, will be available for teams to bid on.
The auction sees 10 teams vying for 204 spots, with 70 dedicated to overseas players. The two-day event is scheduled to begin at 12.30 PM Local time (3:00 PM IST). Notably, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is also missing from the list. Green, who was part of a mega trade deal between RCB and MI, was acquired by RCB for a hefty INR 17 Crore. However, a recent surgery to address a lower-back stress fracture has ruled him out of action for six months, including the Australian summer.
The auction has undergone significant pruning, with the initial list of 1574 players being reduced to 574. The auction will feature two sets of marquee players. The first set, M1, includes Jos Buttler, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, and Mitchell Starc. The second set, M2, comprises Yuzvendra Chahal, Liam Livingstone, David Miller, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj. Out of these 12 marquee players, only David Miller has a reserve price of 1.50 Crore, while the rest have a maximum available reserve price of 2 Crore.
The final list also includes a notable number of capped players, with 48 Indian players and 193 overseas players vying for spots. There are also 3 associate players and 318 uncapped Indian players. The auction is expected to be highly competitive, with teams looking to bolster their squads with a mix of experienced and emerging talent.
