South Tamil Nadu continues to be affected by heavy rainfall, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for the region on Sunday. After a pleasant morning with temperatures exceeding 30°C, the afternoon brought intense showers to parts of Madurai. The 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Sunday saw Vadipatti in Madurai district record the highest rainfall at approximately 7 cm, followed by Sholavandan at 6 cm and Mettupatti at 5 cm. Other areas, including Kallikudi, Sathaiyar, Peraiyur, Andipatti, Usilampatti, Periyapatti, and Kallandhiri, experienced rainfall ranging from 1 to 4 cm.
The rainfall wasn't limited to Madurai. Several locations in Kanyakumari, including Perunchani Dam, Suralacode, Puthan Dam, and Thuckalay, recorded 10 cm of rainfall. Periyar in Theni and RS Mangalam in Ramanathapuram also saw 7 cm of rainfall. Valinokkam in Ramanathapuram, Kodaikanal Boat Club in Dindigul, and Thekkady in Theni reported around 6 cm of rain. The rainfall in Kodaikanal led to a surge in water flow at tourist spots, including the Silver Cascade Falls.
Waterlogging was reported in parts of Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, and Theni, which experienced moderate to heavy rain. The IMD has forecasted heavy rainfall for isolated areas in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Tenkasi, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivagangai, and Ramanathapuram districts on Sunday. Light to moderate rain, with thunderstorms and lightning, is expected in some areas on Monday and Tuesday. A cyclonic circulation is anticipated to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal at lower tropospheric levels around November 5th.
