A major disruption to train services in Telangana occurred on the night of November 12, 2024, following the derailment of a goods train near Peddapalli district. The incident, which took place between Raghavapuram and Ramagundam, resulted in the cancellation of close to 50 long and short distance trains, while another 50 trains were diverted or partially cancelled by the South Central Railway (SCR).
Among the trains cancelled were the Nagpur-Secunderabad express and numerous others scheduled to travel from Hyderabad/Secunderabad to destinations including Sirpur Kagaznagar, Karimnagar, Bhadrachalam, Kachedguda to Nagersol, Secunderabad-Rameshwaram, Secunderabad-Tirupati, Raichur, and Nanded. The derailment affected three railway lines, leading to a complete halt in traffic between Peddapalli and Ramagunadam.
The derailment caused significant inconvenience for passengers. Trains like the Dakshin Express (12722/12721) between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Hyderabad were forced to skip stoppages between Balharshah/Bhongir. Similarly, other trains heading towards Patna, Danapur, Gorakhpur, Raipur, and other destinations skipped stoppages between Nagpur and Secunderabad, as well as between Balharshah and Kazipet.
Union Minister of State for Home, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, expressed concern over the incident and sought updates from SCR officials. The officials informed him that 11 coaches had derailed, impacting three railway lines. The SCR was actively working to restore the tracks as quickly as possible. In the meantime, helpline numbers were provided for passengers seeking information or assistance: Secunderabad: 040-27786140, 27786170; Kazipet: 0870-2576430; Warangal: 9063324898; and Khammam: 7815955306.
