The West Bengal Junior Doctor’s Forum (WBJDF) has announced a major rally titled “90 Days Without Justice” on November 9th, 2023, demanding justice for the rape and murder of a 31-year-old PGT doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital on August 9th, 2023. The call for the protest comes after the CBI submitted a Status Report in the Supreme Court, with the junior doctors expressing disappointment and frustration over the progress of the investigation and the postponement of dates in the Supreme Court.
The WBJDF members state that the 90th day of the case represents 90 days of injustice. While the investigation continues, they emphasize the need for immediate action to ensure justice for the victim and to address the prevalent threat culture within medical colleges. They argue that the situation jeopardizes the fundamental right to proper healthcare systems and urge citizens to join the protest.
The rally is expected to begin at College Square and end at Esplanade. The junior doctors are dissatisfied with the lack of significant progress in the CBI investigation and are awaiting the proceedings in the Sealdah court. The protest, which initially began on August 9th, lasted for 42 days, during which the junior doctors conducted a fast-unto-death to highlight their ten-point demands, including justice for the victim.
The protest underscores the ongoing struggles faced by medical professionals in West Bengal, specifically addressing concerns about safety and security within medical institutions. The rally aims to raise awareness and pressure authorities to take swift action to address the concerns of the junior doctors and ensure justice for the deceased PGT doctor.
