Popular Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh faced a legal hurdle ahead of his highly anticipated concert in Hyderabad on Friday evening. The Telangana government issued a notice to the artist, urging him to refrain from performing songs that promote alcohol, drugs, or violence. This notice, issued by the District Welfare Officer of the Department of Welfare of Women and Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens in Rangareddy, stemmed from a complaint filed by a Chandigarh resident who provided video evidence.
The complaint alleged that during Diljit's recent shows in New Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 26 and 27, he performed songs such as 'CASE', 'Panchatara', and 'Patiala Pegg', which the resident claimed promoted alcohol, drugs, and violence. The notice, citing the representative's video evidence, stated that Diljit's performance during the Delhi shows constituted a violation of their guidelines.
The notice emphasized the potential risks of exposing children to loud music and flashing lights, despite concert guidelines allowing attendees under the age of 13. The government is clearly taking a proactive approach to prevent the normalization of harmful behaviors through popular music. Diljit's 'Dil-Luminati' concert is set for 7 pm at GMR Arena on Airport Approach Road, and fans are eagerly awaiting his performance. However, this notice has undoubtedly raised concerns about the potential impact on the artist's setlist and the concert's overall atmosphere.
