Delhi's air quality has reached alarming levels, remaining in the 'severe' category for a second consecutive day. This severe pollution, attributed to low wind speeds and a thick fog layer, has led to concerns about the city's health and well-being. Despite the dire situation, the Environment Minister, Gopal Rai, has confirmed that the third phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP 3) will not be imposed for now.
The decision to hold off on GRAP 3 implementation stems from anticipated improvements in air quality. Meteorologists predict that pollution levels will decrease, and the government plans to monitor the situation closely. While GRAP 3 will not be implemented immediately, the government emphasized the importance of adhering to the rules established under GRAP 2. This proactive approach aims to prevent the need for more drastic measures and ensure that the city's air quality remains within acceptable limits.
The Supreme Court, recognizing the gravity of the situation, has scheduled a hearing on November 18 to expedite the implementation of measures to combat Delhi's hazardous pollution levels. This swift action highlights the urgency of addressing the issue and finding effective solutions to protect the city's residents from the health risks associated with prolonged exposure to polluted air.
