The early morning hours of Tuesday in Dehradun witnessed a horrific tragedy as a car carrying six students collided with a truck, resulting in their untimely deaths. The collision occurred around 1:30 am at the ONGC Chowk, leaving the car mangled beyond recognition. According to Circle Officer (City) Neeraj Semwal, the car rammed into the truck from behind, leading to instant fatalities for all six occupants. The impact of the collision was so severe that it tore off the roof of the Toyota Innova and twisted the vehicle, revealing chilling details of the incident. Witnesses and videos circulating on social media showed that the impact was so forceful that two of the passengers were decapitated. One of the victims' heads was completely severed, while another person's body was found twisted inside the crushed car. The severity of the accident also resulted in the scattering of body parts across the road, underscoring the immense force of the collision.
Prior to the fatal crash, the group of seven friends were returning from a party, and reports suggest that they were under the influence of alcohol. An India Today report speculates that the students' Innova was racing a BMW before the collision occurred, highlighting a potential element of reckless driving. The accident has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for stricter measures to curb drunk driving and reckless behavior on the roads. The deceased students were identified as Kunal Kukreja (23), Atul Agrawal (24), Rishabh Jain (24), Navya Goel (23), Kamakshi (20), and Guneet (19). All of them hailed from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, except for Kukreja, who was from Himachal Pradesh. The seventh occupant, Siddhesh Agrawal (25), survived the crash but sustained critical injuries and was admitted to Synergy Hospital in Dehradun. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed profound grief over the loss of lives and offered condolences to the bereaved families. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the accident to determine the exact cause and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
