In celebration of Karnataka Rajyotsava, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) has implemented a unique initiative to promote the Kannada language within the city. This initiative involves installing “Learn Kannada” boards with simple Kannada sentences in transliteration on 5,000 autorickshaws. These boards are designed to facilitate communication between passengers and drivers, encouraging a more inclusive environment in the city.
The BTP has partnered with 'Auto Kannadiga' Azzu Sultan, who rose to prominence for his own initiative of installing similar learn Kannada boards on his autorickshaw. Azzu Sultan's initiative has now expanded to thousands of autos across Bengaluru, and his collaboration with the BTP represents a significant step towards mainstreaming the learn Kannada movement. Together, they have refined the initial template of the boards, incorporating driver responses to facilitate understanding between passengers and drivers.
M.N. Anucheth, Joint Commissioner (Traffic), expressed pride in this initiative on X, stating that it is a small step towards promoting the Kannada language and encouraging cultural embrace. He highlighted the importance of this project, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on fostering connections between individuals and promoting a shared understanding of the local language. The BTP is funding the initiative and providing the boards to autorickshaws free of charge, demonstrating their commitment to supporting the project.
The Bengaluru Traffic Police aims to expand this initiative further by installing the learn Kannada boards on 50,000 autorickshaws by the end of the month. This ambitious target demonstrates the BTP's dedication to promoting Kannada and enhancing communication within the city. By fostering a more inclusive environment, this project will not only encourage language learning but also contribute to a greater sense of cultural understanding and community spirit within Bengaluru.
