The incident unfolded in Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru, where a Nepali couple, Urmila Kumari (38) and Sagar Gurang (37), were apprehended by the local police for cultivating ganja plants in their kitchen garden. This discovery came to light when the couple, known for creating and sharing short videos on social media, inadvertently showcased their ganja plants in one of their reels. A vigilant viewer alerted the authorities about the illegal activity, prompting the police to investigate further.
Upon receiving the tip, a police team raided the couple's residence in MSR Nagar. Upon arrival, the couple attempted to conceal their illicit operation by discarding all the ganja plants into the dustbin. However, their efforts were futile as the police recovered 54 grams of ganja leaves from the bin. The couple, who worked in a private firm, confessed to growing the ganja plants with the intention of selling them to their customers. Their actions were clearly in violation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
Following their confession and the recovery of the ganja, the couple was taken into custody. However, they were subsequently released on station bail, pending further investigation. The incident highlights the growing concern of drug trafficking and cultivation within the city of Bengaluru. The police are actively working to crack down on such activities and ensure the safety and well-being of the community. It serves as a reminder that even seemingly innocuous activities, such as sharing videos online, can have unforeseen consequences when involving illegal substances.
