The political landscape in India is heating up as the Jharkhand Assembly elections draw nearer. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a prominent figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of disrespecting the Indian Constitution and engaging in political maneuvering regarding reservations and the controversial Article 370. At a BJP rally in Palamu, Shah alleged that Gandhi presented a 'fake' copy of the Constitution during a public appearance, highlighting a supposed lack of content on the inside of the displayed document. He asserted that the Congress is against reservations for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Scheduled Castes (SCs), alleging that the party intends to implement reservations based on religion instead. This claim stems from a reported meeting between Congress leaders and a delegation of Ulemas (Islamic scholars) in Maharashtra, where a 10% reservation for minorities was supposedly proposed. Shah adamantly declares that the BJP, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, will never allow such a policy to be implemented, emphasizing their commitment to the existing system of reservations based on caste and tribe.
The issue of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, is another area of contention between the BJP and the Congress. Shah warns Gandhi that even his fourth-generation descendants will not be able to restore Article 370, which was revoked by the BJP government in 2019. This statement serves to reiterate the BJP's strong stance against the restoration of Article 370 and emphasizes their commitment to maintaining the state's integration with India.
Shah's remarks also target the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led government in Jharkhand, which is facing upcoming elections. He criticizes the government as the 'most corrupt' in the country, specifically targeting Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Shah accuses Soren of using infiltration as a political tool, claiming that corruption is the true driving force behind the government's actions. His statements aim to discredit the current ruling party and garner support for the BJP in the upcoming elections.
