Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, launched a scathing attack on the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, alleging that if they win the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, the state will be exploited as a financial resource for the Congress party. Addressing a rally in Chalisgaon, Jalgaon district, Shah stated that the MVA government would drain Maharashtra’s resources and transfer funds to Delhi. This assertion was part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign strategy for the upcoming elections, aiming to highlight the perceived economic disadvantages of an MVA victory.
In contrast to the MVA, Shah promised significant development and financial benefits for Maharashtra if the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance comes to power. He emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration would prioritize the state’s progress, claiming that the BJP is set to form the government in Jharkhand and Maharashtra. The promise of economic prosperity is a key strategy for the BJP, particularly in a state like Maharashtra, which is known for its economic prowess. Shah further promised the deposit of Rs 2,100 into the accounts of Maharashtra’s women and an increase in the annual deposit for farmers from Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000.
Shah also utilized the rally to criticize the Congress party and its leader, Rahul Gandhi. He launched a verbal assault on Rahul Gandhi for a recent incident involving a copy of the Indian Constitution. Accusing Gandhi of displaying a fake copy with blank pages, Shah questioned his commitment to the Constitution and accused him of insulting Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. This attack was aimed at undermining Rahul Gandhi’s credibility and potentially damaging the Congress’s image. Additionally, Shah criticized the Congress’s record on national security, accusing them of neglecting terrorism and Naxalism due to vote bank politics during the Sonia Gandhi-Manmohan Singh government. This criticism is likely to resonate with voters who are concerned about national security.
