TMC Slams RSS Chief for RG Kar Case Comments
  • TMC criticizes RSS chief for RG Kar remarks.
  • Bhagwat condemns rape-murder, blames politics-crime nexus.
  • Junior doctors in Kolkata continue hunger strike.

The political landscape in India is rife with tension, particularly in the wake of the tragic rape-murder case at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The incident, which has sparked outrage and protests across the nation, has become a focal point for political maneuvering and accusations. At the heart of this controversy lies the clash between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological parent organization of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The latest salvo in this ongoing battle was fired by the TMC, which vehemently condemned remarks made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat about the RG Kar case. Bhagwat, while addressing an event in Nagpur, condemned the incident, calling it a “shameful” reflection of the crime-politics nexus and highlighting the delays in justice. He also indirectly targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, suggesting that there was an attempt to protect the criminals.

However, the TMC was quick to counter Bhagwat's statement, labeling it as the “clear voice of BJP.” TMC leader Kunal Ghosh, in a video posted by ANI, questioned why Bhagwat remained silent on similar incidents in Manipur, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP controls the police. He accused Bhagwat of selectively criticizing the TMC government in West Bengal while ignoring crimes in BJP-ruled states.

This exchange highlights the deeply partisan nature of the political discourse surrounding the RG Kar case. Both the TMC and the BJP are using the tragedy for their own political ends, seeking to gain an advantage in the upcoming elections. While the TMC accuses the BJP of hypocrisy and selective outrage, the BJP maintains that the TMC government in West Bengal is responsible for the lack of law and order and the failure to deliver justice to the victim.

Meanwhile, the junior doctors in Kolkata continue their hunger-strike-till-death, demanding justice for the 31-year-old medic who was brutally murdered. The doctors claim that the Kolkata Police is contacting their families in an attempt to persuade them to end the strike, raising concerns about political interference in the investigation. The hunger strike has further intensified the pressure on the TMC government, highlighting the growing discontent among the medical community.

The RG Kar case has become a symbol of the growing insecurity and vulnerability of women in India. It has also exposed the deep fissures in the political landscape, where the pursuit of justice is often overshadowed by political maneuvering and opportunism. As the investigation continues, the public awaits answers, while the political battle for power rages on.
