The upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections are shaping up to be a fierce battle between the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). One of the most keenly watched contests will be in the Worli assembly constituency, where Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray will face off against Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) candidate Milind Deora.
Aaditya Thackeray, the son of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, is the incumbent MLA from Worli. He filed his nomination on Thursday, expressing confidence in his victory. However, Deora, a Rajya Sabha MP and three-time MP from South Mumbai, is a formidable opponent. He was tasked with handling the Worli constituency during the Lok Sabha polls, and despite Aaditya's incumbency, the UBT only secured a narrow 6,500-vote lead in the assembly segment.
The contest in Worli is further complicated by the presence of Sandeep Deshpande of the MNS, who has also been given a ticket from the constituency. This multi-cornered fight could potentially benefit Deora, as votes could split between the two Shiv Sena factions and the MNS, potentially allowing Deora to emerge victorious.
The Worli assembly seat is significant not just for its strategic location in Mumbai but also due to the high-profile personalities contesting it. The outcome of this contest will be closely watched as it could potentially influence the overall results of the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
