The recent terror attack in Kashmir's Gulmarg sector, which claimed the lives of two soldiers and two civilian porters, has once again highlighted the ongoing threat posed by Pakistani-backed terrorists in the region. The Defence spokesperson has explicitly condemned the attack, accusing Pakistani terrorists of deliberately targeting Kashmiri locals in an attempt to spread fear and disrupt the Valley's progress towards peace and stability.
The attack occurred on Thursday near the Nagin post at Bota Pathri, in the upper reaches of Gulmarg, when a vehicle carrying Army personnel and local porters came under fire. The alert troops retaliated swiftly, forcing the terrorists to retreat, but not before inflicting casualties. The two Army soldiers killed were identified as Rifleman Kaisar Ahmad Shah and Rifleman Jeevan Singh, while the two porters were Mushtaq Choudhary and Zahoor Ahmad Mir.
The attack has triggered a strong response from authorities. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has paid tribute to the victims and called for a swift and decisive response to neutralize the terrorists responsible. He has also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla to provide all necessary assistance to the families of the deceased porters.
The attack is not an isolated incident. It follows a recent spate of attacks targeting non-local workers in the Valley, including the killing of seven employees of an infrastructure company in Sonamarg. The L-G has emphasized the need for enhanced security measures, including intensified joint operations by the Army, police, and other security agencies, to eliminate terrorism and dismantle the terror ecosystem in the region.
The attack raises serious concerns about the safety and security of both civilians and security personnel in Kashmir. It highlights the need for continued vigilance and robust counter-terrorism measures to prevent further violence and protect the lives of innocent people. The L-G's directives for tighter security, including regular coordination meetings with project-implementing agencies and security audits of infrastructure projects, demonstrate the seriousness of the situation and the need for a multi-pronged approach to address the threat posed by terrorists.
