A 17-year-old boy has been taken into custody by the Mumbai Police for issuing a series of bomb threats to various airlines, causing significant disruption to air travel. The boy, a school dropout from Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh, allegedly made the threats to frame a friend with whom he had a dispute over money. The incident highlights the serious consequences of false bomb threats, which not only cause widespread panic and inconvenience but also lead to significant financial losses for airlines and airports.

The teenager allegedly created a handle on X (formerly known as Twitter) under his friend's name and used it to post the bomb threats. The threats started on Monday and continued for several days, affecting at least 19 flights. Some flights were delayed, while others were diverted to different airports, including one flight being rerouted to a remote airport in Canada. The incidents caused significant disruption to travel plans, leading to inconvenience and distress for passengers.

The Mumbai Police registered three FIRs in connection with the bomb threats and have taken the teenager into custody. His father is also being questioned by the police. The teenager has been taken to a remand home, where he will face legal consequences for his actions. The Delhi Police also registered FIRs in connection with the threats, and the issue was discussed in a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on transport.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible use of social media. Making false bomb threats is a serious offense, and it can have severe consequences for the perpetrator. The incident also raises concerns about the ease with which individuals can create fake accounts and spread misinformation online. Authorities need to take appropriate measures to combat the misuse of social media and hold those responsible for such acts accountable.
