Tata Consumer Products CEO Battles Ambani
  • Sunil D'Souza leads Tata Consumer Products.
  • He previously worked at Whirlpool and PepsiCo.
  • TCPL competes with Reliance's Campa Cola.

Sunil D'Souza, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tata Consumer Products Ltd (TCPL), is a prominent figure in the Indian FMCG industry. Leading the Rs 109000 crore market cap company since April 2020, D'Souza has a rich background in the consumer goods sector, having previously held key positions at Whirlpool India Ltd. and PepsiCo. His leadership experience spans over 30 years, during which he has honed his skills in strategy, growth, and execution.

D'Souza's current role at TCPL places him in direct competition with Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries, specifically in the ready-to-drink beverage market. TCPL's Gluco Plus competes with Campa Cola, a brand owned by Reliance. D'Souza acknowledges that Campa Cola's aggressive pricing strategy with higher margins for retailers has disrupted the market, intensifying competition in the bottled beverage segment. This aggressive pricing has resulted in a decline in TCPL's ready-to-drink business revenue, which fell 11 per cent to Rs 154 crore in the September quarter, attributed to the “competitive pricing action”.

Beyond his leadership at TCPL, D'Souza serves as a Director on the Boards of several Tata Group companies, including Tata Starbucks Limited, Capital Foods Private Limited, NourishCo Beverages Limited, Tata Consumer Soulfull Private Limited, Organic India Private Limited, and various overseas subsidiaries of Tata Consumer Products. His extensive experience and strategic acumen position him as a key figure in the Tata Group's efforts to maintain its dominance in the Indian market, particularly in the FMCG sector.
