  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister urges IT companies to implement work-from-home policy for employees.
  • Emergency Medical Services (EMRI) establishes second control centre in Pudukottai for heavy rainfall response.

The state of Tamil Nadu is bracing for heavy rainfall in the coming days, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens. In response to the predicted downpour, schools and colleges in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, and Tiruvallur districts have been ordered to remain closed on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. This decision was taken in light of the potential risks associated with heavy rain and the need to prioritize the safety of students and faculty members.

Recognizing the potential disruption to normal operations during this period, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. K. Stalin, has appealed to IT companies in the state to implement work-from-home policies for their employees between October 15 and 18. This proactive measure aims to minimize the risks associated with travel and commuting during heavy rainfall. By encouraging remote working, the government seeks to ensure the safety of IT professionals and maintain business continuity amidst the challenging weather conditions.

In anticipation of the heavy rainfall, the 108 Emergency Medical Services (EMRI), a state-operated agency responsible for providing ambulance and medical emergency services, has established a second control centre in Pudukottai. This strategic move is intended to ensure uninterrupted emergency medical response services, particularly in areas where the downpour might disrupt transportation and communication. The additional control centre will enhance the agency's capacity to respond effectively to medical emergencies and provide critical medical support during the rainfall period.
