Shaheen Afridi on Verge of Historic Milestone in Test Series Against England
  • Shaheen Shah Afridi needs 7 wickets to become the first Pakistani bowler to take 100 wickets in the World Test Championship.
  • The left-arm pacer will have a chance to achieve this milestone during the three-match Test series against England starting on October 7th.
  • Babar Azam is also set to reach a milestone, potentially becoming the third batsman in the world to score 4000 runs in all three formats of the game.

The upcoming three-match Test series between Pakistan and England, commencing on October 7th in Multan, holds the potential for a historic achievement for Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi. With 93 wickets in 25 World Test Championship (WTC) matches, Afridi stands on the brink of becoming the first Pakistani bowler to reach the coveted milestone of 100 WTC wickets.

The 24-year-old left-arm pacer, known for his fiery pace and skillful bowling, made his Test debut in December 2018 against New Zealand. He needs to claim just 7 more wickets in the series to etch his name in the record books. While 11 bowlers have already surpassed the 100-wicket mark in the WTC, none have been from Pakistan. Afridi's achievement would be a testament to his consistency and dominance in the format.

Afridi was excluded from Pakistan's playing XI for the second Test against Bangladesh last month but is expected to return to the squad for the England series. He will lead the pace attack alongside Naseem Shah, a 21-year-old right-arm fast bowler who has 54 WTC wickets to his name. Also included in the Pakistan squad is the promising all-rounder Aamir Jamal, who impressed in the third Test against Australia earlier this year.

Another notable milestone could be achieved during the series by Pakistan's star batsman, Babar Azam. The 29-year-old right-handed batter, with 3962 runs in 54 Tests, needs just 38 runs to become the third batsman in the world, after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, to score 4000 runs in all three formats of the game. He has already amassed a significant number of runs in ODIs and T20Is, showcasing his versatility and consistency across formats.
