Ranjit Savarkar, grandson of the revered nationalist, has threatened to file a defamation case against Dinesh Gundu Rao, a Karnataka Congress leader and health minister, for making controversial remarks about Savarkar's dietary habits and stance on beef consumption.
Rao, addressing a gathering in Bengaluru, claimed that Savarkar, despite being a Chitpavan Brahmin, was a non-vegetarian and consumed beef, stating that he did not oppose cow slaughter. This statement sparked outrage among supporters of Savarkar, who viewed it as an attempt to tarnish his image and undermine his nationalist credentials. Ranjit Savarkar, in a press conference in Mumbai, vehemently denied the allegations, stating that Rao's claims were false and part of a larger strategy by the Congress party to defame his grandfather.
He maintained that while Savarkar did not ascribe religious significance to cows, he recognized their importance for farmers and agriculture, viewing them as useful animals.
