The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to take the helm of Haryana once again, with Nayab Singh Saini poised to be sworn in as the Chief Minister for a second term on October 17. This event follows the party's resounding victory in the recent Assembly elections, marking their third consecutive win. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at 10 AM at Parade Ground in Panchkula, a significant event that will see the presence of key political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Ministers from various BJP-ruled states.
Prior to the ceremony, Saini will be formally elected as the leader of the BJP's legislative party, reaffirming his leadership within the party. The state chief secretary has appointed a 10-member committee, led by the Panchkula District Commissioner, to oversee the meticulous arrangements for the oath-taking event. The BJP's strategy during the electoral campaign centered around Saini, who had succeeded Manohar Lal Khattar as Chief Minister in March. The party confidently declared Saini as their candidate for the top position should they secure a win. His representation of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), a substantial demographic in Haryana, further solidified his appeal to voters.
Earlier this week, Saini and other newly-elected BJP MLAs met with senior party leaders in Delhi, including Prime Minister Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, and Union Minister JP Nadda. This meeting served as a crucial step in solidifying the party's post-election strategy and ensuring a smooth transition of power. The BJP's victory in Haryana holds significant weight as it defied a decade of anti-incumbency sentiment and countered exit poll predictions. Securing an impressive 48 out of 90 Assembly seats, the BJP demonstrated its strong hold on the state.
In contrast, the Congress Party, which was hoping for a comeback, managed to secure only 37 seats. The JJP, which had parted ways with the BJP in March 2024, suffered significant losses. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to secure any seats in the Assembly. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) garnered a meager two seats, while three independents, including Savitri Jindal, entered the Assembly and have pledged their support to the BJP. The BJP's victory in Haryana is a testament to their strong organizational structure and their ability to connect with voters on local issues. The swearing-in ceremony on October 17 marks a significant moment in Haryana's political landscape and will set the stage for the BJP's governance in the years to come.
