Pune Hit-and-Run: Family Demands Justice After Delivery Boy's Death
  • Food delivery boy killed in Pune hit-and-run.
  • Family demands justice, slams law enforcement.
  • Audi driver arrested, blood tests pending.

The tragic death of a 21-year-old food delivery boy, Rauf Shaikh, in a hit-and-run incident in Pune has ignited outrage and demands for stricter measures against such crimes. Shaikh was killed when an Audi car, driven by 34-year-old Ayush Pradip Tayal, rammed into two motorcycles in the Mundhwa area early Thursday morning. The incident has sparked public outcry, with Shaikh's family demanding justice and criticizing the laxity in law enforcement.

Shaikh's family, grappling with grief and anger, expressed their frustration with the rising number of hit-and-run cases and other crimes involving the wealthy. Chand Shaikh, Rauf's father, highlighted the disparity in the justice system, questioning why incidents of the rich harming the poor seem to be on the rise. He lamented the lack of effective measures to deter such offenses, emphasizing the urgent need for a stronger law enforcement system.

The incident has also highlighted the plight of vulnerable individuals like delivery workers, who often face precarious working conditions and are susceptible to road accidents. Shaikh's family revealed that he was delivering his last order of the day when the accident occurred. This tragic event underscores the need for improved road safety measures and greater protection for those working in the gig economy, particularly those who rely on motorcycles for their livelihoods. Tayal has been arrested on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and his blood sample has been sent for analysis to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
