The tragic incident unfolded in Pune, India, where a food delivery driver, identified as Rauf Shaikh, lost his life after being struck by an Audi car driven by an alleged drunk driver. This incident, occurring in a posh locality past midnight on Friday, has once again brought to light the issue of reckless driving and its devastating consequences. The accused driver, Ayush Tayal, 34, a senior executive at a firm in Ranjangaon MIDC, was apprehended by the police after fleeing the scene.
The chronology of events is chilling. According to Pune Police, the incident transpired around 1 am in Koregaon area. The driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, first crashed into a two-wheeler, causing injuries to three individuals. He then proceeded to hit the motorcycle that Shaikh was riding, resulting in fatal injuries. The impact of the collision sent Shaikh tumbling, causing severe injuries. Despite being rushed to the nearest hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, Tayal fled the scene, further escalating the gravity of the situation. However, the police, utilizing surveillance footage, tracked him down to his residence in Hadapsar area and apprehended him. A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 105 (culpable homicide), 281 (rash driving), 125(a) (endangering life or personal safety), 132 (assaulting police officer on duty, 119 (inflicting hurt or grievous hurt) and other relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Tayal is being subjected to a medical examination to determine his blood alcohol content at the time of the accident.
