Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress general secretary and candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, filed her election affidavit on Wednesday, revealing her and her husband Robert Vadra's combined assets worth Rs 77.55 crore. The affidavit provides a detailed breakdown of their movable and immovable assets, offering insights into their financial status. Priyanka's declared movable assets amount to Rs 4.25 crore, including cash in hand, bank account balances, mutual fund investments, and gold and silver. Her immovable assets total Rs 7.74 crore, comprising inherited agricultural land in New Delhi shared with her brother Rahul, and a residential building in Himachal Pradesh. In total, Priyanka's declared assets reach Rs 11.99 crore, while she also carries liabilities amounting to Rs 15.75 lakh.
Robert Vadra's wealth significantly surpasses Priyanka's, with movable assets totaling Rs 37.92 crore and immovable assets reaching Rs 27.64 crore, bringing his total to Rs 65.56 crore. Notably, Vadra possesses four commercial properties in Gurgaon and Noida, contributing to his considerable immovable assets. His liabilities amount to Rs 10.03 lakh. The affidavit also highlights the income sources of the couple. Priyanka's income is derived from rental, bank interest, and investments, while Vadra's earnings stem from rental, business, and investment income. These income sources provide context for the substantial assets declared by the couple.
The affidavit unveils details of ongoing tax reassessment proceedings against both Priyanka and Vadra. The Income Tax Department initiated these proceedings for different years, raising tax demands ranging from lakhs to crores. Notably, Priyanka faces a tax demand of Rs 15.75 lakh for the year 2012-13, which is currently under appeal before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT). The affidavit also discloses that Priyanka has three pending First Information Reports (FIRs) from 2019, 2022, and 2023, involving charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Wildlife Protection Act.
