The Indian cricket team is cautiously optimistic about Rishabh Pant's recovery from a knee injury sustained during the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. While the injury initially caused concern and raised doubts about his participation in the second Test, India's assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate has confirmed that Pant is on track to feature in the Pune match. This news comes as a relief for the Indian team, who are looking to bounce back from their disappointing eight-wicket defeat in the first Test.
Ten Doeschate, speaking to the media, acknowledged that while Pant's presence in the second Test isn't entirely guaranteed, he is making good progress. He pointed out that Pant's discomfort stemmed from the end range of his knee movement. While caution is being exercised, the team is hopeful that Pant will be fit enough to take the field at Pune. Earlier, India captain Rohit Sharma had also expressed concerns about Pant's recovery, highlighting his recent history of knee surgeries and the need for extra care due to the extensive trauma he had endured in the past year and a half.
Despite the injury, Pant's potential absence triggered speculation about his replacement behind the stumps. Dhruv Jurel was considered as a potential replacement, but it seems Pant is favoured to be in the playing eleven, suggesting he has shown significant improvement in his recovery. The second Test is set to begin on October 24th, and the team is hoping for Pant's full recovery to ensure his participation in the crucial match.
