The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the list of bank holidays for November 2024, revealing a total of 13 days when banks will remain closed throughout the month. These closures encompass both public and regional holidays, impacting banking services across the country. In addition to the usual second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays, an additional eight holidays will be observed under the Negotiable Instruments Act. This includes significant religious and cultural festivals celebrated in different parts of India.
The month of November is particularly significant for various religious communities in India. Diwali, a major Hindu festival symbolizing the triumph of good over evil, falls in November. Laxmi Puja, a part of Diwali celebrations, and other associated holidays like Bali Pratipada and Govardhan Puja will also lead to bank closures in several states. Chhath Puja, a festival dedicated to the Sun God, is observed in Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, resulting in bank closures on November 7th and 8th. Guru Nanak Jayanti, commemorating the birth of the founder of Sikhism, will also be a bank holiday in several states.
It's important to note that the holiday schedule for banks varies across different states and Union Territories, influenced by the specific festivals and events celebrated in each region. Therefore, it is crucial for individuals to refer to the official RBI website for a detailed list of holidays applicable to their state. Customers are advised to verify the holiday dates specific to their location before visiting any bank branch to avoid any inconvenience. While bank branches might be closed on these holidays, customers can still access various banking services through online channels. This includes online banking platforms, UPI payments, ATMs, mobile applications, and net banking. These alternative options provide a smooth and convenient way to manage financial transactions even on days when physical bank branches are closed.
