NC-Congress Alliance Set for J&K Win
  • Omar Abdullah leads in Ganderbal and Budgam.
  • NC-Congress alliance projected to win majority.
  • BJP second, PDP trails behind in J&K.

The recent Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have seen a clear trend emerge, with the National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance poised for a commanding victory. Omar Abdullah, the NC leader, has secured substantial leads in both Ganderbal and Budgam Assembly seats, indicating a strong performance for his party. According to Election Commission trends, Abdullah is leading by a significant margin of 8,613 votes over PDP's Aga Sayed Muntazir Mehdi in Budgam, with 13 rounds of counting remaining. In his family stronghold of Ganderbal, Abdullah holds a lead of 5,958 votes against his PDP opponent Bashir Ahmed Mir, with 25 rounds of counting left.

The NC's success is further reflected in its overall performance across the Union Territory. Currently, the party is ahead in 42 seats, while its alliance partner, the Congress, is leading in nine. Together, the alliance holds a significant lead in 51 seats, surpassing the halfway mark of 48 needed for a majority government. This signifies a strong mandate for the NC-Congress alliance, signaling a potential change in the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.

The BJP, however, appears to be a strong contender for the opposition, currently leading in 26 seats. The PDP, which had allied with the BJP from 2014 before withdrawing in 2018, is currently ahead in only three seats. The remaining seats are being contested by Independents and other smaller parties like the Jammu and Kashmir People Conference and CPI-M. The outcome of these elections holds significant implications for the future of Jammu and Kashmir. The NC-Congress alliance's projected win signals a shift in political power and a potential change in the governance structure of the Union Territory. The BJP's performance, while not securing a majority, still indicates its continued presence in Jammu and Kashmir's political landscape. The results of the election will undoubtedly shape the political discourse and future of Jammu and Kashmir in the coming years.
