The Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has announced its intention to act according to legal procedures following the decision of Parvathi, wife of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, to surrender 14 compensatory sites allotted to her. This decision comes amid an ongoing investigation by the Lokayukta into alleged irregularities in the MUDA, involving both the Chief Minister and his wife.

The surrender of the sites was announced through a letter delivered to the MUDA by the Chief Minister's son and MLC, Yathindra Siddaramaiah. The MUDA Commissioner, A.N. Raghunandan, confirmed receipt of the letter and stated that the authority would consider the request for surrender and proceed according to the relevant legal provisions. He further clarified that a legal opinion would be sought to determine the appropriate course of action for taking back possession of the sites, given the ongoing investigation into the alleged MUDA scam.

Meanwhile, the Lokayukta police, who have registered a case against the Chief Minister, his wife, and two others in connection with the alleged scam, have reached out to MUDA seeking cooperation in their investigation. The Lokayukta has requested information and documents from the MUDA and has also conducted a spot inspection of the land originally belonging to Parvathi, which was used for a MUDA layout development without proper acquisition procedures. To facilitate the investigation, MUDA has been asked to provide personnel, including a Special Land Acquisition Officer, Town Planning members, and surveyors, to assist the Lokayukta police.

The case revolves around the 14 sites allotted to Parvathi in 2021 in exchange for a piece of land owned by her in Kesare. This land, located on Survey number 464, had been used for a layout without completing the necessary acquisition formalities. The Lokayukta investigation is aimed at determining whether there were any irregularities or improprieties in the allotment of these sites to the Chief Minister's wife.

The MUDA's decision to act according to legal procedures following the surrender of the sites, coupled with the agency's commitment to cooperate with the Lokayukta investigation, suggests a proactive approach to addressing the allegations of corruption. However, the full extent of the alleged irregularities and the ultimate outcome of the investigation remain to be seen.
