Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Thane, Maharashtra, marked a significant milestone in the region's infrastructure development. He laid the foundation stones for several ambitious projects, totaling over Rs 32,800 crore, aimed at enhancing connectivity and urban mobility. Notably, the inauguration of the BKC to Aarey JVLR section of Mumbai Metro Line 3, costing around Rs 14,120 crore, is a major step towards improving transportation within the city and its suburbs.
The newly inaugurated section of Mumbai Metro Line 3 boasts 10 stations, nine of which are underground. This vital public transport project is expected to accommodate about 12 lakh passengers daily once fully operational, easing congestion and providing a more efficient mode of commuting between Mumbai city and its suburban areas. The line's completion is expected to significantly impact the daily lives of countless residents, reducing travel time and improving overall connectivity within the metropolitan region.
Beyond Mumbai's urban landscape, the Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project, estimated to cost around Rs 12,200 crore, is a game-changer for Thane, a major industrial and commercial hub in Maharashtra. Spanning 29 km with 20 elevated and 2 underground stations, the project is a direct response to the city's burgeoning transportation needs. The ring metro will serve as a crucial link for residents and commuters, facilitating smooth movement within Thane and connecting it to other parts of the region.
The PM's visit also saw the groundbreaking of the Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension from Chheda Nagar to Anand Nagar, Thane. This extension, connecting south Mumbai to Thane, aims to create a seamless travel experience by eliminating bottlenecks and improving connectivity. Furthermore, the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) project, costing around Rs 2,550 crore, is designed to transform the area surrounding the airport into a modern, well-connected hub. It involves the construction of essential infrastructure, including arterial roads, bridges, flyovers, underpasses, and integrated utility systems, paving the way for future development and growth.
The PM's initiative also extended to the Thane Municipal Corporation, with the laying of the foundation stone for a new structure costing around Rs 700 crore. This project reflects the commitment to improving public services and enhancing the overall infrastructure of Thane. The combined impact of these projects is expected to bring about a positive transformation in the region, fostering economic growth, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
These infrastructure projects represent a significant investment in Maharashtra's future, highlighting the government's commitment to addressing the region's evolving transportation needs. By investing in efficient and modern infrastructure, the government aims to create a more connected, prosperous, and liveable environment for the residents of Mumbai, Thane, and surrounding areas. These projects are poised to transform the region's urban landscape, positioning it as a hub of economic activity and progress.
