The tragic deaths of an Indian Air Force Flight Lieutenant and his wife, an Army Captain, have sent shockwaves through the military community. The couple, identified as Flt Lt Deen Dayal Deep, 32, and Capt Renu Tanwar, were found dead in separate locations on Tuesday, with authorities confirming their deaths as suicides.
Capt Tanwar's body was discovered at the officers' mess in Delhi Cantt on Tuesday morning. She had been in Delhi for her mother's treatment, and according to Delhi Police, a suicide note was found at the scene. The note reportedly indicated that she wished to be cremated with her husband.
Meanwhile, Deep's body was found hanging in his quarters at the Kheria Air Force station in Agra later that day. While no suicide note was found in his quarters, colleagues stated that he had seemed jovial and in good spirits during dinner with them the previous night. The staff had noticed his absence the next morning and upon breaking down the door, discovered his body.
Agra ACP Mayank Tiwari confirmed that a postmortem revealed asphyxiation as the cause of death for Deep. He added that Deep's family was en route to Agra and could potentially provide further insight into the circumstances surrounding his death. The police are currently investigating both incidents to determine the reasons behind these tragic events.
The news of this double suicide has shaken the military community and raised concerns about the mental well-being of service personnel. It highlights the importance of providing adequate support and resources to individuals serving in the armed forces, particularly in times of stress or personal hardship.
