The political landscape in Maharashtra is heating up as the state gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for November 20. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), an alliance of Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and NCP, is facing a crucial juncture as they struggle to finalize the seat-sharing arrangement amongst themselves. This deadlock has prompted a high-level meeting called by Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray at his residence, Matoshree, in Mumbai.
Sanjay Raut, a prominent leader from the Shiv Sena (UBT), confirmed the meeting and expressed the urgency surrounding it. The meeting is seen as an attempt to break the impasse and reach a consensus on the seat distribution for the upcoming elections. While the alliance leaders are aiming for an announcement on Monday, the differences over seat sharing, particularly in key regions like Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Mumbai, have been a significant hurdle. To address these disputes, Congress is scheduled to convene its Central Election Committee meeting in Delhi the following day.
Amidst these internal negotiations, Sanjay Raut has raised serious accusations against the BJP, alleging that the party is deliberately altering the voters' list in a bid to manipulate the election results in their favor. Raut claimed that the BJP, under the leadership of Amit Shah, and the Election Commission are actively involved in removing names of voters who had supported the MVA in the previous Lok Sabha elections. He asserted that these actions are taking place in 50 constituencies and constitute a serious breach of electoral integrity. This accusation has escalated the political tension in Maharashtra, with the MVA now alleging a systematic attempt to manipulate the elections.
The upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections are shaping up to be a tight race, with the BJP and MVA engaged in a fierce contest.
