The Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government is taking a significant step ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections by proposing a substantial increase in the income limit for the 'non-creamy layer' classification within the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. The current income threshold for the non-creamy layer is set at Rs 8 lakh per annum. The Maharashtra Cabinet has decided to request the central government to revise this limit to Rs 15 lakh per annum. The ordinance is expected to be introduced in the upcoming legislative session.
