Bishnoi's demand for an apology stems from the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, which has been a source of tension between the Bishnoi community and Salman Khan for decades. The blackbuck is revered by the Bishnoi sect, and the poaching incident, involving the actor during the filming of 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' in Rajasthan, sparked widespread outrage. Despite being acquitted by the Rajasthan High Court in 2016, the legal battles surrounding the case have continued, culminating in Salman Khan's conviction in 2018. This conviction ignited the anger of Lawrence Bishnoi, who vowed revenge against the actor.
While Bishnoi's demand for a physical apology at the temple suggests a rigid stance, there are calls for a more conciliatory approach. BJP leader Harnath Singh Yadav, in a social media post directed at Salman Khan, urged the actor to apologize to the Bishnoi community for his role in the blackbuck poaching case. Yadav emphasized the importance of respecting religious sentiments and the need for atonement for past transgressions. This call for a public apology reflects a desire to de-escalate the conflict and potentially resolve the feud through a gesture of remorse.
