KTR Vows Legal Battle Against Musi Development Project Displacements
  • KTR accuses Telangana government of forcibly displacing residents.
  • BRS promises legal fight for those affected by HYDRAA actions.
  • KTR alleges Congress involvement in attack on his vehicle.

The political landscape in Telangana is rife with tension as K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has accused the ruling government of causing undue hardship to the residents of Hyderabad, particularly those living near water bodies and nalas. He alleges that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HYDRAA) is using its demolition drive, under the guise of the Musi Development Project, to displace these residents, primarily from the poor and middle classes, creating fear and uncertainty ahead of the upcoming festivals of Bathukamma and Dasara.

KTR, alongside BRS legislators K. Venkatesh Yadav, T. Srinivas Yadav, and P. Kaushik Reddy, visited Thulasinagar in the Golnaka area of Amberpet constituency on Tuesday. There, he met with residents facing displacement due to the Musi Development Project and expressed the BRS's firm stance against the government's actions. He stated that the party would not stand idly by as families who have resided in these areas for decades are forced out of their homes to make way for malls and beautification projects. He further claimed that the government's plan to demolish homes in the name of the Musi project would leave approximately one lakh families homeless, and proposed that the government should construct another 2 lakh double-bedroom houses to provide adequate resettlement, similar to the one lakh constructed by the previous BRS government.

KTR's visit was met with allegations of an attack on his vehicle by “Congress goons” in the area. The BRS leader, however, maintained his commitment to fighting for the rights of the displaced residents, asserting that such incidents would not deter him from his mission. He also expressed concern over potential police excesses against the poor and warned that any such actions would face repercussions once the BRS regains public trust. The BRS leadership, including G. Jagadish Reddy, T. Harish Rao, O. Narasimha Reddy, and G. Kishore Kumar, condemned the Congress attack on KTR's vehicle, alleging that the police were complicit in the incident. They accused the Congress of orchestrating the attack under the supervision of the local police, highlighting the fact that a Congress activist managed to scale KTR's vehicle despite police presence.

The BRS's strong stance against the government's actions and their commitment to supporting the displaced residents reflects the increasing political tensions surrounding the Musi Development Project. The project, while intended to improve the city's infrastructure and aesthetics, has sparked controversy due to concerns about the potential for displacement and the lack of adequate resettlement plans. The BRS's legal battle on behalf of the affected residents is likely to escalate the political debate and challenge the government's approach to the project. The upcoming months will be crucial in determining the fate of the displaced families and the future of the Musi Development Project.
