Kochi Cyber Police Bust Film Piracy Ring
  • Two men arrested for piracy
  • Pirated films uploaded online
  • Investigation underway for others

The Kochi city cyber police have successfully apprehended two individuals, Praveen Kumar (30) and Kumareshan (29), both hailing from Sathyamangalam in Tamil Nadu, on charges of creating and distributing pirated copies of recent films. The arrests were made in Bengaluru and the suspects were subsequently brought to Kochi. The police operation targeted the duo's website, onetamilmv, which served as a platform for illegally distributing pirated movies.

The accused are alleged to have meticulously planned their operation, strategically recording films using mobile phones while seated in middle rows of movie theaters in Coimbatore and Bengaluru. They then uploaded these pirated copies onto their website, making them readily available to viewers in various languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada. The website's monetization strategy involved generating revenue through online advertising.

The Kochi cyber police are actively investigating the case to identify and apprehend any other individuals involved in this piracy ring. The arrested individuals have been formally charged under the provisions of the Copyright Act and the Cinematograph Act. These charges carry non-bailable offenses, reflecting the seriousness of the crime and the potential for severe consequences. The arrests and the ongoing investigation highlight the ongoing fight against digital piracy in India and the efforts to protect the intellectual property rights of filmmakers and film distributors.

This incident underscores the need for robust measures to combat film piracy, which poses a significant threat to the film industry and the livelihoods of those involved. Technological advancements have made it easier for individuals to engage in piracy, creating a complex challenge for law enforcement agencies. However, the successful apprehension of the two individuals in this case demonstrates the effectiveness of proactive law enforcement and the commitment to upholding copyright laws.
